The Appeal

Land Rover's Special Vehicles Division evolved from bespoke utility commissions, such as the Royal Family's various Series commissions, and from military needs, such as the Wolf program. These were hand-built, made-to-order vehicles finished by specialist craftsmen, often tailored for unique customer requirements or limited-run projects.

The vendor believes that this 1994 Defender 110 originated from Land Rover's Special Vehicles Division, which would make it a special thing indeed. Indeed, there's a numbered SV plate under the bonnet which you can study in the photographs. Having recently undergone a comprehensive chassis-up restoration with a full body rebuild, this Defender now presents very well while maintaining its authentic character. The extensive documentation, including full mechanical history from new and a detailed record of the restoration process, makes this a particularly appealing proposition for the discerning Defender enthusiast.

"This Defender is an absolute pleasure to drive. It turns heads everywhere it goes and has a real presence on the road. We have taken enormous pride in owning it.

"Having a hand-built, fully restored Defender has genuinely been a long-held dream for us. We love the way it feels on the road – solid, purposeful and far more refined than a standard 1994 example, thanks to the restoration and soundproofing.

"We are only selling it due to personal circumstances. It is a vehicle we have cherished and enjoyed, and it consistently attracts admiration and interest whenever it is out. It will be very much missed, and we hope it goes to someone who will appreciate it as much as we have."

The vendor says:

"The exterior presents extremely well following a full body rebuild and respray in Santorini Black. The paintwork is even and glossy across all panels, with no notable scratches, dents or rust visible. As with any Defender of this age and design, very minor imperfections may be present on close inspection, but overall, the finish is far superior to a standard 1994 example.

"The chassis and bulkhead were replaced with new galvanised units during the restoration, so the underside is in excellent condition with no corrosion concerns. Suspension, mounts and fixings are all clean, solid and recently renewed. All exterior trims, lights and seals fit correctly and operate as expected.

"The interior has been fully refurbished as part of the chassis-up restoration and is in excellent condition throughout. It features a custom-fitted interior while retaining the original Land Rover dash to preserve its period character. New trim, seating and soundproofing have been installed, giving a noticeably more refined and comfortable driving environment than a standard 1994 Defender.

"All instruments, gauges and switchgear are in full working order. The wiring has been refreshed during the rebuild, and the cabin benefits from improved insulation and reduced road noise. There are no tears, stains or known defects to the interior. It presents cleanly and consistently, with minimal wear since the restoration."

"The mechanical condition is excellent following a comprehensive, chassis-up restoration. The engine starts cleanly, idles smoothly and pulls well with no smoke, hesitation or abnormal noises. The drivetrain, suspension and braking systems were renewed during the rebuild, and the vehicle drives tightly and predictably compared with a standard 1994 Defender.

"A full mechanical history from new (1994) is included, along with a detailed, itemised parts-and-costings file documenting the restoration works. The vehicle remains largely factory-spec in terms of engine and drivetrain configuration, with no performance modifications beyond the renewal of components to original specification.

"There are no known mechanical faults. All fluids, belts and service items have been replaced as part of the rebuild, and the new galvanised chassis and bulkhead ensure the structural integrity is sound for many years to come."
