The Appeal
Allgaier was already a major industrial combine when, in the immediate postwar years, it commissioned Porsche to design its own ‘Volkstraktor.’ The result was the innovative and inexpensive A17 featuring Porsche’s two-cylinder diesel engine. Porsche-branded AP17s and Allgaier A17s were available.
This 1951 example is an Allgaier-badged A17, painted in the firm’s signature green as associated with its early tractor models. That paintwork and the impressive condition you see in the photos is the result of a comprehensive restoration and mechanical overhaul in 2022. The work included sandblasting and respray plus new electrics, starter motor and alternatorIt remains a matching numbers tractor we are told. It carries German papers and current technical inspection valid to May 2027.
The A17 and its AP17 cousin are highly collectible, and with good reason thanks to their innovative Porsche engineering. This is a really good example where someone else has done all the hard work so that you can enjoy the results.
