This Austin Twelve Six was cruising around Britain's roads long before World War 2 and has stood the test of time in quite remarkable fashion. As the video below shows, the smooth-running straight-six-cylinder 2050cc engine is in lovely running order, and the gearbox still gives a proper, solid change. The leaf spring suspension gives a vintage feel to the ride, without detracting from the car's comfort.
Up top, the coach style interior is very roomy, with very comfortable and accomodating seats and even fold-out foot rests emphasizing the car's upmarket credentials. The look and feel of the whole car is rooted in the pre-war period - note the rear-opening doors - so the styling as well as the driving experience is much more that of a limousine than a runaround; the cabin is more like a horse carriage or train compartment than anything else,
The sliding sunshine roof, still in perfect working order, adds to the holiday tourer feel. Other nice touches include the vintage cabin heater and, on the outside, the long, sweeping running boards add flair to the car's classic 1930s appearance.
The exterior in general is in good, straight, solid order and very original, although of course after eighty-odd years, there is some room for improvement. As mentioned, the running gear is generally in excellent condition.
A very tidy useable classic, nevertheless with plenty of scope for adding value or simply to filling up the autumn hours. Obviously a car that would need to be seen before buying, but one we feel is unlikely to disappoint.
