This is a very significant matching numbers E-Type being the second from last Series II FHC ever made. The car was manufactured on the 22nd October 1970 and was supplied new in Regency Red with manual transmission. XRW 51J was supplied new by Peter Lindner (of Lindner/ Nocker Lightweight E-Type racing fame), Frankfurt, Germany to a British Army officer, Captain G. D Petrie, B. F. P. O, Soest, Germany. This E- Type spent it's early years in Germany, before being shipped to Canada in 1987. After two years the E-Type was shipped to Liverpool and between 1997 and 2003 was subject of a major restoration that was carried out to an exceptionally high standard.
Since the major rebuild the car has only covered 3500 miles and presents beautifully. From the photos we can see the bodyshell was totally stripped bare down to the tub and the shell rebuilt as required with all running gear removed. Photos highlight various brand new panels being fitted to the body and mechanical work to include the differential being overhauled and the engine partially stripped down. Many new parts were fitted to the car to include new stainless steel exhaust pipes and manifolds, new polished rocker covers, electronic ignition, fuel pump, various re-chroming and new rubbers. On build up the E-Type was overhauled with all new brakes, suspension and steering, being professionally converted to RHD. The upholstery was completely re-trimmed in Grey leather and the car beautifully detailed and prepared for shows. On completion the car won 1st prize in the 1970 class at Kirton show and the car has attended events such as Silverstone Classic for the 50 year anniversary.
XRW 51J presents superbly with an excellent, straight bodyshell and the paint work is absoloutley first class. Earlier in 2017 the E-Type was been subject of a £10, 000 glass out full re-spray due to the existing paintwork being twelve years old and slightly faded. Many years on since the rebuild the E-Type still looks sharp and presents particularly well under the bonnet, clearly having had hours of detailing and careful maintenance. The upholstery still looks top class having being professionally re-trimmed and the the underside of the car is excellent. On the road this Jaguar won't disappoint with wonderful power delivery; it's quick, pulls superbly and sounds fabulous with a lovely exhaust note. The four speed gearbox changes up and down smoothly, handling is top class and the brakes are sharp and pull up straight. This is a real drivers car, it's feels tight, responsive and having only covered 3500 miles since a major rebuild, it still drives like a recently rebuilt E-Type. This is a brilliant car and one to be driven and enjoyed whilst also still good enough to show having being rebuilt to a very high standard.
