Launched in 1959, Alec Issigonis's revolutionary Mini redefined the small car with its transverse engine and front-wheel-drive layout, but even he couldn't have foreseen the pop-culture legend that developed from it. It's as British as fish and chips, and an early example, with its distinctive 'Basket-weave' grille and Austin Seven badging, is as desirable as it gets in the much-loved lineage.

Most early Mini survivors are the Cooper variants, so it is refreshing and pleasing to discover this remarkable 850. There's a strong case to argue that it is now better than the day it left the Longbridge works. That's thanks to a hgh end restoration by none other than the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon. The work, as you can see in the photos, prioitised originality and factory-correct details.

This has to be one of the best early Minis available. It has the provenance and condition to appeal not just to model enthusiasts but collectors of classic British cars.
