The Appeal
The 2600 Spider was the last of a particular sort of carozzeria-built big GT from Alfa Romeo. It was built to conquer the USA market so mixes a sweet-revving 2.6L straight six power plant with svelte lines and decent cabin space. All good reasons to want one now as a stylish tourer.
In RHD configuration these cars are very rare finds, but here we have one. It was converted by importer Ruddspeed and looks resplendent in white over a contrasting burgundy leather cabin. Inside and out this is a highly presented car, helped along by £9,000 of recent bodywork and paintwork refresh - plus attention to mechanicals - by an acclaimed marque specialist.
The result is a pretty car that runs and drives very well. The vendor has stored it carefully in a temperature-controlled environment as part of his large collection, using it rarely. It is a mark of his high standards that the car has been subject to a voluntary MOT - it runs to the end of June with no advisories.
The vendor says:
“The Alfa is a very rare car (particularly in RHD) and always attracts a crowd where ever I take it, even into the local market town. Unusually it looks even better with the hood up, so is safe to leave when out on a rally or shopping etc. The locks are all in working condition. Driving on A-roads at modern speeds is a delight, the 6 cylinder engine revving freely through the range. It will overtake modern cars easily with the 5 speed gearbox. A driver's car.”

The 2600 Spider is one of Carrozzeria Touring best designs, a flowing, sleek and distinctive car that is a more sinuous alternative to Germany’s famous ‘Pagoda.’ It is arguably more usable, too, thanks to the sweet-revving engine, five-speed box and 2+2 layout.
This car presents very well in Alfa white, the paintwork complemented by a lovely burgundy leather cabin. The cabin and roof have been recently restored and, together with the paintwork, create a car delivering at a high level. It is usefully factory standard, including the steel wheels, and the cabin retains its lovely details including the Veglia dials and a classic radio. It all works well with no issues reported by the owner and no obvious deterioration inside or out.
