The Appeal
It is fair to say that the Range Rover rewrote the rule book upon its launch in 1970. Marketed as ‘the car for all reasons’, it masterfully combined the comfort and refinement of a luxury saloon with the all-terrain capability of a traditional 4x4, and is often credited for setting the blueprint for what would later become the luxury SUV segment. Early examples, however, remained far more utilitarian than their modern-day descendants.
The phrase ‘fully restored’ is frequently overused within the classic car world and can often result in the sacrifice of originality and character in pursuit of perfection. By contrast, this sensitively restored example, finished in period-correct Bahama Gold, retains much of the appeal and ethos of the original model. While presenting as though it could sit proudly in a 1970s British Leyland showroom, it still features details such as its original PVC interior and even an eight-track player discreetly updated to accept an auxiliary input.
The seller notes that the restoration was intentionally carried out to preserve the vehicle’s authenticity rather than achieve an overly polished concours-style finish, with certain minor dings and imperfections deliberately retained beneath the fresh paintwork. Added reassurance is provided by a clean voluntary MOT valid to June 2026.
Enjoyed by its current custodian on holidays and journeys throughout the UK, it is now ready for another enthusiast to continue the story of this highly evocative classic Range Rover.
