The Appeal
To Italians, this is so much more than just a car; it's a symbol of freedom, post-war prosperity, and an icon of "La Dolce Vita". During the later years of the 500's life, Fiat responded to customer feedback asking for greater refinement. The Turinese firm answered the call with the L - which stands for 'Lusso' or 'Luxury'.
Now don't expect leather seats, walnut dashboards and air conditioning; this is still the basic "car of the people" the 500 has always been, but you did get a higher level of exterior trim, and three extra horsepower.
This 1972 example looks to be in lovely condition for its age. The vendor tells us:
"I was told that the car had a full rebuild 5-6 years ago with lots of new parts. Some visible are new shocks, springs, brakes, new carburettor, seat covers, roof. It is in lovely condition and can be used daily. The drives operate smoothly, and everything functions as expected."
