The Appeal 

In the early 1970s Porsche continued to do what it has always done best: make its cars even better. After the 2.7litre engine debuted in the tarmac-scorching RS, in 1974 it became available in the G-Model with mechanical injection. These cars also got the refreshed ‘impact bumper’ look, a style that worked so well it remained unchanged for 15 years. 
First registered in January 1974, this RHD 2.7 was one of the first to benefit from those twin innovations. In the hands of its enthusiast seller since 1990 and in superb condition with classic red paintwork, it is backed by a huge history file. For enthusiasts of these capable 70s models this is a very well presented example with evidence of considerable investment.  
 

History and Paperwork 

  • First registered 4th January 1974 
  • Current owner since 18th August 1990 
  • VIN confirms that this is a 1974 model year G-Model coupe 
  • Previously painted silver, which was changed on 19th April 1993 
  • Early 2.7litre G-Model with impact bumpers 
  • Head gasket work undertaken in December 2016 
  • Distributor replaced in October 2020 
  • Fuel tank replaced November 2016 
  • Invoices for restoration work undertaken in April 1990 
  • Fuel injection work in November 2019 costing over £2,000

The Condition 

  • Compelling specification including red paintwork and black polished 16in aftermarket 'cookie cutter' alloys 
  • Black leather interior with optional electric steel sunroof 
  • Well presented car with no visible corrosion on bodywork or under car 
  • Underside is very well kept with fresh underseal and no issues to report 
  • Interior in good order with smart leather showing little or no signs of wear 
  • Standard factory interior with period Panasonic radio and three spoke leather wheel 
  • No visible issues inside although passenger door trim appears to have a fitting missing 
  • Headlining appears to be in good condition 
The ’74 911 introduced the ‘impact bumper’ style that has become synonymous with the classic model. This car would have been one of the first to be so-fitted, a RHD example that looks particularly good in its classic colour combination and sat on superb black Fuchs alloys with polished rims. Across the bodywork and through into the black leather interior it is a very well kept car with no significant visible signs of age or use. The attractive specification is topped off by a factory fitted steel sunroof.
 

The Mechanics 

  • 2,687cc flat six Porsche engine derived from the version used in the RS 
  • Fitted with K-Jetronic fuel injection rather than mechanical fuel injection

  • Older maintenance records show work to head gasket, fuel tank and distributor 
The G-Model Carrera is where the 911’s modern day hegemony surely began. 
This car has clearly been cared for during its owner’s 33 years tenure. The history file is extensive, documenting ongoing work that has included head gasket work, a sports exhaust and new fuel tank.  More recently the car has had its fuel injection system comprehensively overhauled.
