The Appeal
The 928 sits in the memory of Porsche enthusiasts for breaking the mould both for the brand and the automotive industry as a whole. This is a mid-eighties Porsche powered by a front-mounted water-cooled V8 rather than an air-cooled flat-six sitting behind the rear axle.

Inside the Porsche 928 is a very nice place to be with a black and white half-leather blend. You can imagine being sat in the cabin on a cross-country road trip for several hours and not really wanting to get out by the time you arrive at your destination. Furthermore, with what appears to be an aftermarket Alpine radio, this is a Porsche 928 S2 with phone connectivity.
The most notable part of the interior is the large gear selector which points an automatic transmission sitting in the transmission tunnel rather than the standard manual.
Aside from a few creases in the leather bolsters on the driver’s seat and some worn plastic on the dashboard, the interior seems to be in generally good order throughout.20220708_113148.jpg2.53 MB

With a long bonnet and pop-up headlights, the 928 departs drastically from Porsches before it. Though controversial, we see that as a good thing being an almost unique design for a car baring a Porsche logo.
Overall, the bodywork is in good condition having been well looked after for the majority of its life, its extensive documentation shows it hasn’t had any advisories since 2006. That being said, the flat disc 16” wheels have a few minor scuff marks notably around the lug nut holes. 20220708_115008.jpg1.5 MB
The Mechanics
Optional four-speed automatic gearbox
Large 4.7-litre V8 engine
Under that long bonnet sits a behemoth of an engine. Weighing in at 4.7 litres, the V8 motor is capable of generating 320hp in the 928’s S2 guise, plenty of power for a 1,500kg car. Connecting the engine to the rear wheels is a four-speed automatic gearbox, an optional alternative to the standard manual transmission. This simply reinforces that this 928 is best suited to motorway miles and relaxing while the car does all the work.
Surrounding the 16” flat disc wheels that came as standard with the 928 S in 1984 are fairly recent Avon tyres.
The car appears to start, drive and stop as it should, that being said, the seller “strongly recommends a good going over before any use as there may be faults which are not noted,” as it has done very few miles in recent years.20220518_133940.jpg2.15 MB
Summary
The Porsche 928 S2 is a car any fan of the Stuttgart-based brand should be interested in. It’s a car that paved the way for a new genre in the manufacturer’s portfolio, a path that ended up giving us bestsellers like the Panamera and Taycan.
