The Appeal
The L322 is so capable and well-regarded that most have tended to cover many miles and worked hard. This 2004 example is quite different. With a little over 65,000 miles from new it is a highly preserved model that looks barely a fraction of its 21 years.
It is also arguably the L322 you want if you plan to use it. It is one of the early models with the highly regarded M57 BMW turbo diesel engine. With Vogue trim and finished in Giverny Green metallic with a fetching cream leather cabin, it is a well appointed and clearly cared for example.
The vendor acquired the car recently after it had been in long term dry storage for at least six years. He has recommissioned it, expending a considerable sum on parts and labour to run through and sort the mechanicals. The work has included servicing the differential, engine and gearbox with new fluids. The brakes have also been overhauled including new calipers and pads. The factory alloys are now shod with new Pirelli Scorpion rubber.
Here is a chance to capitalise on all that work and bag a luxurious and economical L322. That it comes to market with MOT to March 2026 is an extra bonus.

The vendor says:
The exterior is in excellent condition. All panels are straight, the paint appears original and looks stunning in the flesh. Being 21 years old it has a few marks here and there as to be expected but far fewer than expected for its age. The grey paint on the door handles and bonnet vent has started to deteriorate and would benefit from being redone but is purely cosmetic. The underside is very clean indeed, it has clearly led an easy life with little to no off roading judging by the condition. Mud flaps fitted all round.
“L322s are prone to rot around the rear sills and it is well hidden behind the trim. Knowing this, I stripped off this trim when I bought the vehicle but fortunately only the driver side rear most part of the sill needed repair. All rotten metal was cut out. I have photos documenting this. The garage that did the work commented on the cleanliness of the vehicle, particularly underneath.
“I have had the wheels acid dipped, sand blasted and powder coated and shod with four brand new 255/60/18 Pirelli Scorpion all season tyres which have covered less than 500 miles so far. The refurbishment cost £340 and the tyres were £522. The spare wheel is a matching alloy with a good tyre. Three of the four wheels still have the original plastic caps that cover the locking wheel nuts!
“The interior is simply stunning. The aspen green carpets are virtually immaculate. A full set of genuine Land Rover rubber mats are in situ. The front seats are in good condition with some marks commensurate with age but no splits or holes. The rear seats are almost immaculate and show little signs of use. The parcel shelf is in place along with the retractable luggage net. The boot has its full complement of tools which are often misplaced including jack, wheel brace, wheel chocks, tailgate hinge stop and warning triangle. The electric sunroof operates as it should and the air con blows ice cold after its recent re-gas. All buttons and switches operate as they should. Sadly I have not been able to get the radio to work in my ownership. The digital part of the dash display has all its pixels.”

“It is fitted with the venerable M57 BMW 3.0 straight six turbo diesel engine which really suits the nature of the L322. It has an incredibly low mileage of just over 65k from new, backed up by service history and a very clean MOT history which can be viewed online. It produces 174hp and 390Nm of torque at 2000rpm. It starts on the button and runs beautifully, providing plenty of power and pretty reasonable economy for such a big and heavy vehicle.
“The engine and running gear are clean and dry with no leaks. The gearbox shifts smoothly and without fuss. I have just serviced the gearbox using over 20 litres of fresh oil. I drained and refilled the gearbox several times before the final oil change. This is the only way to ensure all of the oil is changed. The sump pan was removed and cleaned with a new filter, gasket and bolts fitted. I have taken photos of the majority of this work and of course, all receipts are now part of the service history which are annotated with the mileage and date. Air suspension operates as it should, raising and lowering on command via the dial on the dash.”
