1933 Salmson S4C 1480cc, with very attractive AL1100 style coachwork by Ian Pitney.
Our client first saw this Salmson in France as a single seater and was immediately captivated by the twin cam engine, so returning home with the car was an easy decision. Sent straight to the Ian Pitney Coachworks, what unfolded became a car which placed itself firmly in the heart of the current vendor. We have to say it’s easy to see why.
When you hop aboard this little French car and position the detachable steering wheel back into place, you wrap your fingers around the wooden rimmed steering wheel just like in a Type 35. On the attractive dashboard you spot the missing 8-cylinder magneto, and only then do you realise it’s not a T35 – and honestly there is considerably more leg room.
Unlike a T35, there is a dyno start mounted on the front of the crank, rather than a hand crank. The engine fires easily, with no hesitation. Sitting on a very comfortable bench seat with some of the finest Connolly leather is a delight few would refuse. The chassis and suspension make for a very smooth ride even over rutted ground that would bounce you out of most small English sports cars. The 1480cc twin cam engine is eager, the ride balance, the experience a delight.
This is a genuinely endearing car, now offered for a reluctant sale.
