The Appeal
It is no surprise to discover that the current keeper of this R129 SL500 has completed numerous long road trips without fault. That’s exactly what these carefully engineered cars were built for, and 34 years after this one left the factory, it can still reliably deliver those experiences.
This car stands out from the crowd with its rare colour combination, high specification and extensive history file. It is finished in unusual Malachite Green metallic, believed by the vendor to be a special order colour, and there is a matching hard top. The interior is in Fir Green with matching carpets. The front seats feature heating and memory operation. As a top specification V8, it features Mercedes’ clever adaptive damping and self-levelling rear suspension.
The history file shows regular maintenance throughout the cars life. Recent highlights are shown in the photos and detailed below and include a visit to The SL Shop for a comprehensive Health Check. You can view the results in the photos. Other work has included attention to the brakes, professional welding to the underside and a full Dinitrol chassis treatment. The steering box was reconditioned in 2022.
The car comes to market requiring an MOT, but with no advisories on the last one and a few miles since, that has the makings of being straightforward.
The vendor says:
“The car has completed numerous long road trips without fault. It’s been utterly reliable, well-tempered, and a joy to drive. With ample V8 power, it pulls with real authority and cruises confidently.
“This is a rare opportunity to acquire a highly presentable, mechanically sorted, and cosmetically refined R129 with a unique specification. Its blend of special-order features, outstanding upkeep, and honest road-ready performance makes it an excellent collector’s piece or stylish classic GT.
“Ideal for an enthusiast looking for a turn-key R129 with character, documentation, and no deferred maintenance.”
