The Appeal
The introduction of the 996 marked a new chapter in Porsche history. It brought in a fundamental change to the 911 formula, as the first generation to become water-cooled. It wasn’t all change though; the new car was still instantly recognisable as a 911, and Porsche still produced a turbocharged version for those looking for something that bit more visceral to drive.
This 2002 example is the Turbo Tiptronic S, the revised version of Porsche's Tiptronic system that can learn the driving style of the person behind the wheel in order to optimise the timing of gear selection. You can also select gear manually via buttons on the steering wheel. Clever stuff indeed.
