The Appeal
The 1950s made MG painfully aware that its cars were looking dangerously close to old hat. A constant array of new designs had eclipsed the pre-war styling of the T-Series, and suddenly, upright radiators just weren't chic anymore. It was Syd Enever's work that landed on the desk of the Draughtsman's department - he had designed a streamlined car for George Philips to take to Le Mans, and it was quite the prospect. Ponton styling, single-style enveloping and a distinctive sloped front - very modern. The resulting car would revolutionise the company's image.
The MGA was fast, stylish, modern, and unique, and quickly gained a reputation as a market leader in the highly competitive world of British sports cars.
This 1957 example was imported from South Africa in 2022, and stands as a handsome ambassador for its class. It's been subject to a comprehensive refurb, with a fully re-upholstered cabin, and carries a much-lauded Mazda 5-speed gearbox.
