The Mustang is one of the all-time US icons and is revered among car enthusiasts all over the world, especially when equipped with a V8 engine.
This one is an early V8, dating from 1966.
It comes with Ford’s 289 cubic inch engine, as found in other such icons as the Thunderbird and the AC Cobra.
Direct from a private collection in Florida, this car arrived in the UK late last year and has had all import duties paid and registration completed so is now fully road legal in the UK.
It’s an especially desirable example of an early V8 Mustang and is stunningly presented.

This is a wonderful car to sit in, with a sporty five-dial dash displaying fuel, oil pressure, temperature and battery voltage.
The black vinyl seats are in excellent order, as are the door cards and carpets, while unusually for a Mustang of this vintage there is no sun damage to the dashboard, possibly because before it moved to Gulf of Mexico the car spent a lot of its time in the northern states.

This is an amazing car to look at and it sits just right on its optional black and chrome sports wheels. The paintwork and chrome are excellent and the bullet-style door mirrors really look the part.
Look closely and there are few microblisters under the paint on the rear pillars, but there’s no signs of any visible corrosion and the vendor reports that the underside is in excellent order.IMG_5808.JPG4.55 MB
The Mechanics

The 289 ci V8 is a Ford stalwart and it looks and sounds excellent, matched to a three-speed automatic transmission and the desirable option of power steering.
The V8 fires up on the first twist of the key and makes the whole car throb on its axles with the promise of the power it might deliver.
We were able to conduct a short test drive on private land during which the car performed faultlessly, with good brakes and steering. The vendor reports that it drives very well indeed, with no known faults. IMG_5791.JPG4.74 MB
Summary
This is a wonderful example of the earliest type of V8 Mustang, in hardtop coupé form, which was the most popular Mustang variant of its vintage.
It looks absolutely amazing and is presented in wonderful order, while all of the import duties and registration paperwork have been done meaning it’s ready for its next owner to jump in and enjoy.
