The Appeal
The R107 was built to munch miles, particularly interstate miles, with the minimum of fuss and the maximum of comfort. Of the many engine options available for the pre-facelift early cars, it is perhaps the rare-engined 450SL that does that best.
With 225bhp on tap, these remain powerful cars with a great soundtrack. Perfect, in fact, for road trips, classic car rallies and long-distance day drives. This smart silver metallic 1975 450SL would do all that perfectly, its attractive tobacco brown interior looking particularly inviting. A set of optional ‘Mexican Hat’ alloys and factory hard top add to the appeal. There is even an appropriate age-related number plate.
It has covered less than 81,000 miles from new, which is barely run in for Stuttgart’s well-regarded M117 V8. The history file shows regular maintenance by its handful of keepers and there is the added reassurance of a voluntary MOT valid to March 2026 with no advisories.
