Named after the legendary American salt flats, the original Triumph Bonneville was in production for almost three decades before its Millennial resurrection gave bikers a modern take on the Triumph Engineering classic. The original 650cc Bonneville was subsequently joined by the T140V, with a 744cc engine and a five-speed gearbox.
First built in 1978, as denoted by the XA prefix on its frame and engine, this Bonneville 750 was manufactured in Coventry before being exported. Little is known about its back story before it returned home in 1994, though it wasn’t officially registered in the UK until November 2025. The DVLA subsequently assigned it a period registration plate, and today, this resembles an impressively preserved time capsule.
The twin-cylinder engine burbles away through two chrome exhausts whose shine matches the chrome mudguards and bodywork. The suspension appears to be in fine order and there are no signs of chrome decay or corrosion anywhere from the wire wheels to the luggage rack, though there are marks on the tank’s silver paintwork. Only the engine start/stop module betrays the bike’s true age.
The current owner has undertaken a full mechanical recommissioning, incorporating a new battery, spark plugs and leads, fluids and AP Racing brakes, while a service was also recently carried out. Replacement rubber extends from the foot rubbers to the hoses and fresh-looking tyres, while the owner describing the inside of the fuel tank as looking like new. Then again, with the odometer showing just 4,200 miles, it’s unsurprising that this bike reportedly runs perfectly with no known faults. image.png1.83 MB
