Although considered the ‘entry level’ Bentley between 1984 and 1992, theres nothing budget about the Bentley Eight. Sharing much with the Mulsanne, it was sprung a little firmer for tighter handling, gaining automatic ride height adjustment in 1990.
Originally the model was only planned for the UK, but proved so popular it was soon available in Europe and America.
Registered new in August 1990 with Reg Vardy Specialist Cars Division in Tyne and Wear, staying local and returning for annual servicing until the mid ‘90s when the car relocated to Surrey and with specialist service agents.
The current owner acquired the Eight from his father, who owned to for a sometime and treated it like his pride and joy, taking great care of the car before passing it to his son, however lack of storage and time to enjoy it mean the car is now coming up for sale
The cream leather interior is in extremely good condition, the hide supple and soft with very little patina to the seats. The contrasting dark blue carpet is deep piled, clean and not worn under the thick lambswool mats and the doors cards are also unmarked leather, topped with fine wood with a deep gloss which continues onto the dashboard.
The leather steering wheel and leather dashboard have no marks, and the bright metal kick plates look excellent. Overhead the leather headlining is also in excellent condition.
The car presents very well, the dark metallic blue is ideal for the nature and shape of the car. It has good brightwork, the grill in particular is very impressive, as is are the stainless bumpers, however there are some small knocks on the front bumper corners and a larger one on the passenger rear corner part.
The drivers wing mirror has had a scrape and ben touched in and the door edges have some chips. Looking at the wheel arches, they all have some bubbles on the arch lips which will require attention soon, and the rear corners of the rear wings have both taken small round dents alongside the boot lid.
There is a full service book for many years from Bentley main agents and specialists as well as a number of receipts for maintenance work including the rear suspension gas springs being replaced in 2010 and a leaking power steering rack repair in 2014.
There is an enduring appeal to these ultimate luxury barges, the opulence of a Rolls Royce but with a bit more sporting pedigree - a gentleman is driven in his Rolls but drives his Bentley.
This car needs some minor attention around the bodywork but the interior is superb and the magic very much alive.
