The Appeal
Jeep knows how to build a great SUV, after all, it invented the idea with the original Wagoneer. The ZJ, with its separate chassis, neatly straddles the line between long-distance cruisability and offroad capability.
For those in the know, it is a very well-regarded truck. The unstressed 4L straight six is virtually unburstable, and they were built surprisingly well for a late 90s American car. Yet survivors this good are very rare, likely because most have been used as workhorses.
It seems unlikely that this smart Rosewood metallic ‘96 has led a hard life. It is the upmarket Limited model with full beige leather and an array of electric toys, all of which, except the sunroof, are said to be fully working (the roof tilts but doesn’t open). The vendor acquired it after it had been in long-term storage and has continued to improve the mechanics. Recent work has included new front and rear brake discs and calipers, four new tyres, a water pump and full exhaust system.
Driving a good ZJ, particularly one with the rumbling petrol motor, is a real treat, and definitely a relaxing one. The vendor rates this one highly and the photographs support the view. It comes to market with MOT to November 2025 and some useful spare parts.
The vendor says:
“It is a great vehicle, people comment on how it is so iconic. Honestly, it is so comfortable like driving around in an armchair!!”
