The Appeal

The X308 was the last of the XJ40 platform which had been in production since 1986. Usable, surprisingly affordable to run and with unrivalled levels of comfort, coupled to great driving dynamics, X308s now represent a fantastic era of Jaguar engineering that embodies all that is majestic about Jaguar's luxury heritage.

'Sovereign' models offered the highest luxury refinements and plenty of expensive wood veneer. Following the discontinuation of the popular AJ16 inline-six and V12 engine, Jaguar’s 4.0-litre AJ-V8 had big shoes to fill and instantly became the flagship powerplant. The Sovereign utilised the naturally-aspirated 4.0-litre V8 (opposed to the 3.2-litre variant) producing nearly 300bhp and characterised by the big-capacity growl when pushed. Externally, models were distinguished by use of polished chrome work on the window surrounds, rear light clusters, as well as radiator grille and boot. Furthermore, the car is badged as ‘Sovereign’ opposed to ‘XJ’. This example adorned with the traditional leaping cat mascot on the bonnet too.
