The Appeal
The Birmingham Motor Show in 1998 was one of the most important ever, with major launches of four important British-built cars - the Rover 75, Land Rover Discovery 2, Vauxhall Astra and Jaguar S-Type, each one a critically important model in its own right.
Jaguar got its fair share of the column inches with a spectacular reveal, where the S-Type was revealed on a plinth in front of a giant leaper hologram, flanked on both sides by 50 separate video screens, each showing images of the car and its predecessors. There was no mistaking the fact that Jaguar was playing on its rich heritage to seed the car in the minds of potential customers.
Today, that modern-retro appeal is retro in its own right. A good S-Type is a cool thing, as nostalgia for the late 1990s and early 2000s develops apace. After all, it’s a car that’s rapidly emerging as a classic, having just turned 25 years old – a fact not lost on this particular car, which was selected to appear on the front cover of the May 2024 issue of Jaguar World magazine.
This one is a great example. Owned for much of its life by an elderly owner in Hertfordshire, never welded and smartly presented, the car has quite clearly been well-maintained and is presented in lovely overall condition. It’s also a wonderful (and rare) colour – non-metallic Brooklands Green, offset by a lovely Ivory leather-trimmed cabin, and comes with a good chunk of history.

The Condition
- Original Brooklands Green paint – a deep solid green with a lovely, glossy shine
- Five-spoke alloy wheels in immaculate, unkerbed condition with Pirelli Cinturato tyres all-round
- No major dents or damage – just two small touched-in marks on the boot lid and some small marks on the rear bumper. The bodywork is incredible for an S-Type of this vintage
- Clear, cloud-free headlamps
- Never welded nor in need of any welding – the car has a new MOT and has never received a corrosion advisory
- Gorgeous Ivory leather seats
- Barely any wear to seat facings or bolsters, just very light signs of age

- The vendor reports that the car occasionally throws up a Traction Control error message that turns the ABS light on, believed to be a wheel speed sensor
- Mileage may increase slightly as vendor is using the car occasionally
