In many respects, the DB7 is the last Aston Martin to emerge from the brand’s independent era, even though it was developed while Aston was under Ford ownership.
 
The new ‘Baby Aston’ evolved from the cancelled Jaguar F-Type sports car and was based on a heavily modified Jaguar XJ-S platform, with styling from Keith Helfet, who penned the Jaguar XJ220, and Ian Callum, who went on to be Jaguar’s global head of design – so a pretty good pedigree for an astonishingly pretty car.
 
It became the fastest-selling Aston Martin ever and from 1999 was offered with an in-house developed V12 engine – the new model known as the Vantage.

This one is a V12 Vantage convertible – or “Volante” in Aston parlance – equipped with automatic transmission. It is presented in superb condition overall, and in stunning Antrim Blue with two-tone cream and blue leather trim.

It has been meticulously maintained with 25 service stamps and an A4 folder packed with history. The current owner has had the Vantage for 15 years and originally bought it to share with his son, but the son is now a father himself and the DB7 needs to be replaced with something more practical, so it is reluctantly offered for sale.

The Aston presents beautifully in Antrim Blue, one of the smartest colours for a DB7, and has all of its original paintwork and trim. It’s a great-looking car in lovely order, with no evidence of external corrosion, a very smart paint finish and no dents or damage to speak of – just a couple of small chips and marks in line with the car’s age and usage. During the current ownership, it has always been garaged and kept in a Carcoon when not in use.
 
The alloy wheels are in excellent order and the electrically operated mohair hood is smart, free of rips and works as it should, while it is also supplied with a matching tonneau cover.

The cabin is truly gorgeous, offering an alluring mix of cream and blue leather, a matching dash with walnut veneered details and thick carpets. The overall condition is good, but there is wear in a few areas, most notably to the driver’s seat bolster, though this is by no means major.
 

Powered by an Aston Martin-developed V12, the Vantage’s performance doesn’t fall far short of a supercar. Quite apart from that beguiling soundtrack (and nothing sounds as good as 12 cylinders on full chat), it’s a rapid car with a 0-60 time of 5.0 seconds and a top speed allegedly somewhere around 185mph.
 
It has been impeccably well-maintained throughout its life, and has recently had an exhaust rebuild, with the rear boxes deleted and a stainless-steel through pipe. The vendor reports that it has standard ends so looks stock, but sounds lovely.

The plugs and coils have also been replaced recently, along with the fuel pumps replaced and air conditioning evaporator. The vendor also had the front suspension of the car fully renewed at 48,687 miles, which he reports has completely transformed the car.
