The Appeal
As the first ever automobile offered with curtain airbags and the first European car to fit factory satellite navigation, the E38 7 Series was intended as BMW’s most advanced four-door saloon to date. It hails from a time when BMW’s watchwords were understated and sophisticated. And with tasteful enhancements such as those carried out by the legendary Alpina, the E38 became a very handsome car indeed.
This 2001 example is the straight-six engined 728i which has been subtly upgraded with several parts from Alpina. Now lowered on BC coilovers, sat over Alpina B10 wheels and matching front lip spoiler, it really looks the part. Offered with an advisory-free MOT until April 2025, the original book pack and a large collection of paperwork which reportedly amounts to full service history, this 7 Series is a compelling proposition. The vendor informs us that they’ve spent around £6,000 during their custodianship and hope the car goes to another E38 fan.

- The vendor sourced genuine 20” Alpina B10 alloy wheels which have been professionally refurbished by well-known ‘The Wheel Specialist’, Birmingham
- Alpina front lip spoiler added
- Straight and solid-looking bodywork with good door fit and glossy paint across all panels
- Smart trim, glass, badges and light lenses all round
- We’re not notified of any notable imperfections and the BMW continues to present very well for a car of its age and mileage
- Besides some creasing to the seats, (most notable the driver’s), the upholstery present very well overall
- No excessive wear of obvious damage included in the vendor’s photographs
- The wooden trim and various plastic pieces inside the cabin all appear in good shape
- We’re not notified of any known issues with the cabin systems/electrics
- The carpeting a[ears to be in good shape throughout
