The Background

When thinking of iconic sports cars, there are few cars that come to the forefront of one’s mind more so than the Porsche 911. The beautiful flowing lines, packaged with famed performance, dynamics and practicality, the 911 is the go to all rounder performance piece.

The 997 variant of the 911, introduced in 2004, is quite possibly one of the finest 911’s, taking the successes of its 996 predecessor whilst boasting improved suspension, brakes and overall performance.
Having hit the nail on the head with the first water cooled 911, the aforementioned 996, Porsche created in the 997, more of an evolution in terms of the model, keeping the same recipe with a more subtle redesign, most notably the removal of the “fried egg” style headlights in favour of more classic style rounded light pieces. The interior was also slightly redesigned, however the 997 stuck true to the classic 911 shape, remaining largely reminiscent of its older brother.
The Carrera 2S variant of the 997 such as the one we see here, was an introduction to the Porsche forecourt in late 2005 and presented buyers with an even more powerful version of the car, courtesy of a larger displacement 3.8 litre 6 cylinder engine. The Carrera’s also featured Porsche Active Suspension Management, a form of electronic damping control to really boost the 997’s dynamic ability.
The 997 went on to dominate the Porsche lineup until 2013, with many different variants of the model coming to market throughout that time. Whilst always respected in the sports car world, in recent years the 997 has gained all new levels of traction with both Porsche and general driving enthusiasts for both its style and dynamic ability.

The History

This specific 997 benefits from an incredibly well documented history which dates right the way back to its original purchase.
First registered for the road in April of 2005 the car was bought by a Mr A Johnson, from Porsche Centre West London at a cost of around £74,000, the car then spent the following 5 years of its life under this ownership before being purchased by the current registered keeper in 2010.
The 911 has always been well stored and maintained to the highest standard throughout its lifetime, hence we see it in the remarkable condition with such low mileage that it sits in today.

The Paperwork

Being such a well cared for car, it's no surprise to report that the 911 is accompanied by a thorough and comprehensive history file. Taking pride of place in the file is a copy of the original bill of sale, detailing the various optional extras fitted to the car, as well as a series of invoices for general servicing and maintenance work undertaken by Porsche Centre West London, the original dealership from which the car was bought.
Neatly placed within their leather pouch are the various operating manuals and warranty books and files for the various technical components within the car, alongside the all important service booklet, which has been stamped regularly by both Porsche main dealerships and independent specialist workshops.
Having been equipped with a multi change CD player from the factory, the 911 also comes with a Porsche branded leather CD holder, certainly a unique piece of factory equipment for the top trumps list!
The car comes with a current MOT valid until November of 2022 with no advisories. Looking through the mileage stamped throughout the prior MOT history one can see the incredibly low mileage the car has amassed annually, often covering just a few hundred miles per year.
The V5 registration document is also present with the car.

The Interior

Full Ocean Blue leather was specced on this 911 from the factory, and what a choice that was. Nearly every sculpted surface is draped in beautifully stitched leather upholstery. The cabin of a 911 is always a special place to be, but with the perfect interior colour choice, this one is truly something else.
The stylish body hugging seats up front are of an excellent standard, wonderful dark leather that is still rich and full of colour, they appear in incredibly original condition and bare very minimal, if any, wear.

Yet another sign of the quality to which the car has been upheld. The smaller seats in the rear of the cabin mirror this great quality and look almost as if they haven’t been sat in in their 17 years on the road. The electronic seat mechanisms, including the rare factory fitted heating and memory seat functions, all work fully and with ease.
A piece of artwork in themselves, the door panels, upholstered in a mix of leather and plush carpeting are still factory fresh in appearance. The carpeting, naturally, is of a brilliant standard and is noticeably lacking in the wear to be expected of a near 20 year old car, largely due to its limited use throughout its lifetime.

This standard continues into the carpet in the cabin of the car, which coats the floors, footwells and the centre tunnel as it becomes more pronounced by the rear seating.
The leather dashboard with its flowing lines has been well preserved and as such is still in great order, the same can be said for the iconic 3 spoke leather steering wheel and sculpted centre console piece.

The factory fitted (at considerable extra cost!) dvd satellite navigation system sits proudly front and centre in the car, the screen and all the various switchgear around it’s all in wonderful clean shape, the navigation system itself still works well, as does the in-car “PCM” phone system.
Sitting at the bottom, we find the small unassuming button that controls the PASM electronic damping system fitted to the Carrera version of these 997s. Next to this is the button to operate the electronic rear spoiler at the time of the car’s photoshoot, this was not functioning but it is being looked at at present by the current owner.
Opening the front panel of the car, we find an excellently upholstered storage compartment, this section houses the cd multi changer dvd navigation system both fitted as optional extras from the factory.

The Exterior

When it comes to styling, Porsche always seems to hit it out of the park. Sporting a slightly wider stance, more classic styling cues and lacking the very much Marmite headlights placed on its predecessor the 997 was no exception to this adage.
With its brilliant Arctic silver metallic finish, this 911 looks absolutely marvellous from the outside. The paintwork has a wonderful shine to it and remains in great shape thanks to the incredibly high standards to which these cars were painted in the factory.

There are some slight age related marks and blemishes to be seen around the car, most notably some minor cracking to be seen on close inspection of the front bumper, however they really do not detract from the car’s wonderful looks.
The trim pieces, lights and glasswork are in clean highly presentable shape and sit neatly within the cars lines. Protruding from the back bumper, a set of factory fitted rear parking sensors can be seen. The sensors do their job well and function fully.
We find the car sitting on 4 excellent 19” sport design Porsche alloys which very much set that car off and give it a more modern stance and appearance. The wheels themselves are in good shape but could ideally use a refurbishment and they do bear some kerb markings and scratches.

The Mechanics

Opening the rear panel, we find ourselves looking at a great example of Porsche’s glorious 3.8 litre 6 cylinder engine fitted to the carrera 997s. Thanks, largely due to its continual regular servicing, and it’s incredibly low mileage, the motor fires into life with ease, with an excellent tone being produced from the rear quad exhausts.
Being a Carrera 2S this car is something of a rarity, the paring of rear wheel drive and the thumping 3.8 litre engine is a true party piece, and thus on the road the car is reported to provide the excellent dynamic drive these cars are so famed for, equally at home cruising the motorways on a grand tour, or at the request of the driver and their right foot, blasting down a glorious B-Road with that iconic 6 cylinder soundtrack.
From a mechanical standpoint the car is in excellent order, the engine and engine bay present incredibly cleanly, the tiptronic automatic gearbox flows through the gears smoothly and effortlessly and the front and rear brakes, with discs reminiscent of dinner plates, bring the car to a stop with ease.

The Appeal

The big question is, where are you going to find another like it? A 997 with low owners, incredibly low mileage and a full stamped service history is beyond rare. Rarer yet is all of that mated to a Carrera 2S 997, with plenty of tech and creature comforts shoehorned in from the factory to make this the ultimate all round performance piece.
For a true sports car and driving enthusiast, the 911 is an excellent choice. That wonderful combination of style, power, with genuine usability, practicality and comfort is unmatched. This is one that can be jumped in and used right from the first minutes of ownership.
