The Appeal

Built on Aston Martin's VH platform, the Rapide S shares many of the gorgeous styling cues with models such as the DB9. The name Rapide was chosen as a homage to the original Lagonda Rapide from the 1960's. While the Rapide S certainly looks the part, it is also extremely capable on the road too. This is in part, thanks to the masterpiece underneath the bonnet.

The 6L V12 engine gives for an unrivalled soundtrack and is equally capable either cruising calmy or being used more enthusiastically. Coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, the Rapide S isn't a vehicle whereby the engine is let down by the gearbox, or vice versa. With room for 4 passengers plus luggage this vehicle can accommodate for the longest of journeys if needed, all while certainly turning some heads!

This Rapide S was very thoughtfully configured from new; the winter wheat leather seats are all in excellent condition free from any rips, tears or marks. Furthermore, the carpets and headlining are also in excellent condition throughout. The rear passengers have the luxury of in seat entertainment with screen mounted in the back of the front seats.

There are also 2 sets of Rapide branded headphones located in the rear centre console along with a remote for the in-seat screens. The leather trim and stitching are still all in excellent condition as well as the piano black plastics. Should you rather your own soundtrack over the V12 engine, the Bang & Olufsen sound system works as should, excellently. The boot is also in excellent condition and includes a tyre pump and an Aston Martin branded umbrella.

The Exterior

The divine red paintwork of this Rapide S is arguably it's pièce de résistance, a rich red with a glorious glitter sparkle when the light catches it. It works perfectly with the interior configuration to remain elegant without the risk of being too extravagant. Given that the car has covered over 15,000 miles there are some very minor paint chips to the lower front bumper as well as a few small scuffs to the alloys. However, when looking throughout the car it really does remain in excellent condition.

The ceramic coating to the paintwork gives the divine red a lift making it impossible not to catch your eye. The brightwork trim has been extremely well looked after throughout with no signs of corrosion. The iconic Aston Martin badges are also in excellent condition throughout with some light marking to the paintwork near the rear badge, most likely from opening and closing the boot. Overall, the exterior of this Rapide S is in excellent condition.

The Mechanics

Mechanically, the Rapide S is known to be a masterpiece, a large capacity V12 coupled with an 8-speed automatic means you are prepared for nearly all driving styles. With this example having covered less than 17,000 miles, some may argue the engine is only just run in. One thing is for certain, it definitely has many more miles left to experience! While there is a service light illuminated, the car starts and runs as it should, smoothly and absent of any bangs, knocking or smoke.

We are told by the owner that it accelerates and brakes as it should, well and in a straight line. Whilst there are no physical service history documents accompanying the vehicle, the current owner informs that they are stored digitally with the main dealer, Aston Martin of Walton-on-Thames, these have not been seen by Car & Classic.

Summary

This Aston Martin Rapide S is truly stunning. Having covered less than 17,000 miles in under 8 years it remains in excellent condition throughout. The current owner has evidently cherished and cared for this vehicle throughout. A special mention is deserved for the paintwork as well as the interior, both retaining a nearly new quality. It isn't too often you see a Rapide S in this colourway and configuration, especially given its excellent condition. This is a rare opportunity to own a true masterpiece that will leave you grinning from ear to ear.
