The Appeal
When the war ended, MG were slow to really knuckle down and design a new sports car. Austerity was being felt across the industry, and most of their sports cars still shared a predominantly pre-war lineage. That meant that the new TF, introduced in 1953, still looked remarkably traditional - perhaps even nostalgic for the developing American thirst for the British roadster.
American servicemen were returning home with British sports cars in droves, and the MG TF was no exception. 9,602 were built in all, many going international. Indeed, this particular one ended up in Singapore with a Naval officer, which clearly kicked off a lifetime of regimented upkeep.
This fine, three-owner car has been beautifully preserved - and if you collected Castella's Classic Sports Car cards, it may look very familiar. This machine featured on its very own card, based upon a photograph of it standing alongside a Lancaster Bomber. It's a very evocative image, and really captures that best-of-British, post-war curiosity these cars carried.
Still carrying its original red livery, and subject to recent new wiring and brakes, this classic is ready and waiting to impress its lucky new keeper. It's not often we come across an example quite as fine and storied as this one. image.png3.95 MB
The History and Paperwork
Registered in 1954, originally a General Export model
The car's early life was spent in Singapore with a Naval officer, before being brought to the UK in 1967
