The Appeal

For many, the IIA is considered the best of the Series Land Rovers. It represents a sweet spot in the lineage, with notable improvements over the original Wilkes design but none of the plastics of the Series III. This 1964 example is the desirable short-wheelbase model with a 2.25-litre petrol engine and free-wheeling front hubs. Resplendent in a patinated coat of Marine Blue with a contrasting Limestone roof and wheels, it looks the quintessential classic Land Rover - especially in this workaday hard-top configuration.

As the accompanying invoices attest to, a great deal of time and money have been spent on this Land Rover over the years. It boasts a replacement Richards chassis and over £4,000 was spent in August 2017 on mechanical restoration work. Voluntarily MOT tested in October 2024, passing with just one minor advisory, this is clearly a well-sorted old Land Rover, ready for a new custodian.

The Condition

Rebuilt upon a replacement chassis, professionally finished in black
Marine Blue finish to the ‘Birmabright’ alloy bodywork
Limestone wheels and hard top (with rear windows)
The bodywork looks commendably straight for a Land Rover of this vintage
Some patina and historic repairs visible upon closer inspection, adding to the car’s rustic charm
Some slight electrolytic corrosion causing minor paint bubbling in places
The chassis, bulkhead and door tops all appear in very sound order
There appears to be ample tread remaining on the off-road tyres
Equipped with a tow bar and trailer electrics

Some of the galvanised cappings have begun to corrode slightly, but this appears superficial
