The plus
The Mercedes 230 SL, nicknamed the 'Pagoda' because of the distinctive concave shape of its hardtop, is one of the brand's most elegant and sought-after classics. With its curvaceous lines designed by Paul Bracq, sober flanks and iconic roof, it's an iconic roadster that's remarkable in every way. Combining refined performance with timeless style, it is now highly coveted by collectors over the world.
This 1964 model spent most of its life in the same family, and is sold with its hardtop and soft top. Accompanied by an extensive file of invoices, it has clearly been well maintained, with an engine rebuild at 95,800 km and recent work including new paintwork, a new radiator and replacement shock absorbers.
Add to that the rare option of a 'Kinder Seat', and you have an extremely enjoyable German classic. Not to be missed!image.png6.07 MB

Creases and wear on soft top but still in good general condition
The Pagoda's soft lines and clean styling make it a real design lesson. Its round fishbowl headlights and gently curved bonnet give it a welcoming look, complemented by a sober, elegant silhouette. It's a deeply seductive car, and this example is a fine illustration of that.
The Arctic White colour enhances its subtle lines, set on (non-original) Mexican Hat wheels, with a solid chassis that is said to show only superficial corrosion. A straightforward, fully usable car.
Loudspeaker grille to be properly refastened
Rare 'Kinder Seat' option present
Fawn leather upholstery in generally good condition
Fawn leather interior with light patina, good general condidtion
The fawn leather interior gives the Pagoda a warm, refined feel, with its well-arranged instruments and curvaceous dashboard. The option of a third seat in the rear - known as the 'Kinder Seat' - is also present, a rarity that is much sought-after today.
Everything is presented with care and a light patina. No tears, well-preserved carpets and door panels in good condition: a very attractive period interior. image.png4.37 MB
Mechanicals
2.3-litre 6-cylinder engine
4-speed manual gearbox
Engine rebuilt at 95,800 km (without invoice)
The vehicle is reported to be in good working order
Without seeking to break any records, the Pagode is powered by a robust 6-cylinder M127 engine that only the Germans know how to design. It delivers performance that lives up to expectations, with a disciplined, fluid drive. It's a more sophisticated take on the classic roadster, just as agile but more elegant.
We're told that this is a good example, sound and ready to take to the road.image.png4.09 MB
