The Appeal
Sometimes the best results are unintended ones. Such was the case with the E-Type, a car honed to cleave the air along the Mulsanne Straight, but that focus on aerodynamics created one of the most beautiful cars in the world.
From the car’s long production run it is the early cars, with their fared-in headlights that purists revere. Here we have a late Series 1 car - chassis numbering places it amongst the last few hundred RHD coupes built - finished in correct Carmen red and reputed to be a matching numbers example.
It has been very well cared for by its small number of keepers and retains its factory features like the early, beloved ‘toggle’ dashboard. The history file attests to their attention.
Later Series 1 cars like this one are arguably the most usable because they combine the larger 4.2L XK motor with a fully synchromesh gearbox that is easier to use than the previous ‘Moss’ unit. As such, this car would be great for long distance touring or weekend drives.
Good E-Types are one of the true joys of classic motoring and this example looks impressive.

First registered in June 1967, this E Type has only had 3 owners since 1984, with the second owner from 1996 who kept it until 2006 who clearly spending a great deal of time and money on its maintenance. with the third owner who has covered fewer than 1,000 miles in their eighteen-year custodianship.
Both are found in this example and it’s reportedly its a very good drive. The vast array of invoices reveal the extent of the work carried out over the years and we understand for the vendor that it’s in rude health.
It’s confirmed matching numbers and matching colours by a certificate attained from Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust and the well-documented MOT history provides a good idea of the mileage intervals. The last MOT expired in September 2016 although is now exempt so is ready to be driven straight away.

In Carmen Red, this Fixed-Head Coupé is the quintessential E-Type and it’s in very good condition throughout, without being overly pristine to enjoy as Jaguar intended. There’s a gentle patina to the paintwork and chrome, without any heavy wear, notable corrosion or any signs of damage to report.
The interior is of particular note, exhibiting beautifully weathered seats and controls, without having any heavy wear or damage to report. Besides the discreet fitment of a modern stereo, everything looks feels and we dare say even smells like it did in the period.

As a late Series I, this E-Type boasts an enviable specification. Jaguar did away with 3.8-litre engines in 1965 in favour of a more powerful 4.2-litre unit and the famously tricky Moss gearbox was exchanged for an all-synchromesh g/box and recently all brake callipers have been overhauled and rebuilt, oil service including carb rebuild and tune along with the vast array of invoices reveal the extent of the work carried out over the years and we understand from the vendor that it’s a good driver.
