The Appeal
When renovating a classic Land Rover, there is always a risk of overdoing things. After all, these are working vehicles and the patina and charisma of age, the signs of their purpose and utility, can often be lost. That’s why we love what the current keeper has done with this 1984 90 County, keeping the aesthetics original but extensively overhauling virtually everything you can’t see.
That work was undertaken in 2020 by a Land Rover specialist at a cost of over £11,000. It included a new galvanised chassis, a replacement 300TDI engine with a 90 conversion and a new turbo, which the vendor describes as ‘new’ at the time, and a whole host of other improvements, as listed in the photos. More recently, there has been a new fuel injection pump, electrical repairs, new fluids, regular servicing and, in 2026 alone, a replacement clutch and a refurbished gearbox. The windscreen and driver and passenger windows have been replaced, and LED headlights have recently been fitted to improve night driving. Inside the cabin has been refreshed with new seats and console, plus replacement soundproofing.
The extensive history file documents a long list of further work, which we have summarised below. The vendor tells us that it dates back to the car’s first keeper. The current MOT is valid to January 2027 with no advisories. That could be its last because it is now eligible for Historic Vehicle status based on age.
Here is a chance to capitalise on all the recent work. You could further improve the cosmetics if you wish, but with a vehicle like this, it’s purely optional and a matter of taste.
The vendor says:
“Excellent example of a classic rare design, mechanically renovated so great as either a working vehicle or it could be transformed further in rear cabin/bodywork.”
