The Appeal
Looking at this black 900 you can see why polo-wearing architects - and James Bond - loved them. They appeal to anyone who values distinctive, functional design and clever, innovative engineering.
The T16S was the ‘ultimate’ version of Saab’s wide range of turbocharged 900s. It got the full pressure, 175bhp forced induction unit, plus sports suspension, anti roll bars and, of course, that sleek ‘Aero’ body kit. From 1991 genuine T16S cars have Turbo S badges on the boot. Just like this one.
It is a very original and tidy example that retains the many upgraded features that define the later ‘90s versions of these cars. That includes a full electric sunroof, veneer dashboard and leather interior. There is scope to improve the cosmetics but it is perfectly usable as it is.
There have been just four keepers over its 31 years. The history file shows regular maintenance up to an extended period of dry storage that began in 2013. Recently recommissioned following that time, it comes to market with a full service, new brake hoses and replacement rear shock absorbers. It will be sold with a fresh 12 month MOT from October 2024.
The T16S is one of classic motoring’s most usable classics. This one is a timely reminder of why they remain so desirable.

The Condition
- Classic black paintwork in presentable condition with some light ageing
- The paintwork shows a few light marks and some stone chips in photographs
- Bodywork appears to be in good order with no accident damage reported
- Last MOT shows advisories for body panels but these are not visible in photos
- Exterior retains its factory correct T16S ‘Aero’ body kit with correct dark grey finish
- Body kit, badging and exterior trim including lights in generally good order
- There are some points to note to exterior trim and glass surround detailing
- Sits on factory correct classic three spoke alloy wheels in good overall condition
- Badged as a Turbo S indicating it is a genuine T16S car
- Bumpers show light marks in photographs but not unsightly
- Grey leather interior with various signs of age and use as shown
- These include driver’s seat bolster and leather sheen
- Grey carpets in fair condition with some light marks to note
- Headlining is complete but sagging as shown and pinned up in places
- Fitted with correct features of later 900s including sunroof and veneer dashboard
- Later Kenwood stereo fitted
- Door cards complete but show light deterioration of fabric trim
- No reports of issues with underside but points to note on old MOT
