The Appeal
Pininfarina’s makeover of its already pretty 406 into a svelte coupe is widely regarded as delivering one of the prettiest cars of the 90s. Yet these are rare finds today, particularly when they are as good as this one.
WIth 90s classics on the up it is a perfect time to discover it. Equipped with the 2L HPi 16V engine, 5spd manual box and finished in eye-catching red, it is a 'time warp' classic. It has covered a mere 44,500 miles and is in very good condition.
The vendor tells us that he acquired it from the previous keeper, who had kept it in dry storage for 25 years. Unlike most stored cars, he wisely started it regularly and serviced it too. The current keeper recommissioned it, including a full service, brake overhaul and new belts. He also put the car’s first-ever MOT ticket on it - now valid until June 2026. The test included an advisory for a tyre, which has been rectified by fitting four new rims.
This pretty coupe is a useful reminder of just how good these cars looked. This example must be one of the best of the handful of survivors and we’re not surprised to learn it attracts a lot of attention at shows.
The vendor says:
“The Peugeot 406 Coupé is widely regarded as one of Pininfarina's most elegant designs, combining Italian styling flair with French engineering practicality. This particular example represents a rare opportunity to acquire what is essentially a time-capsule specimen of this increasingly collectable model. Having been stored carefully for over 25 years by its original owner with regular maintenance during this period, this 1998 example has been preserved in very good original condition. Recently recommissioned by the current owner for show car purposes, it presents in smart condition throughout with very low mileage and has just received its first-ever MOT certificate.
“This is an exceptional example of the iconic Peugeot 406 Coupé by Pininfarina—a design that continues to turn heads. The car has recently been displayed at several car shows, where it stood out for its remarkable originality and condition. Many enthusiasts commented, “You don’t see these often,” and were genuinely impressed by how well it has been preserved. With extremely low mileage for its age and its very first MOT completed just last month, this is a rare opportunity to own a classic that combines elegant design with outstanding provenance.”

“This exceptional 1998 Peugeot 406 Coupé has had just two owners from new. The car was originally purchased by a private individual who kept it in dry storage for over 25 years, maintaining it regularly with oil changes and periodic running to preserve its condition. I have acquired the vehicle and recommissioned the car with the intention for enjoyment and use as a showcar. However, due to commitments with my other show cars, I am reluctantly offering it for sale.
“This car is in remarkable original condition, a true collector’s example: factory-fresh, untouched trim, and functioning original equipment including head unit and remote central locking. Paintwork is glossy and original. Alloy wheels are unmarked with original, intact centre caps and factory clips. Includes wheel nut box with centre cap removal tool.
“All under-bonnet and boot fabric seals are in excellent condition. The car still retains all its factory stickers, manuals, and original documentation.”

The vendor says:
“Excellent paint work, The car has been recently shown at several car shows, where it consistently drew attention for its originality and pristine condition. Comments from the public often included, “You don’t see these anymore,” and “It looks like it just left the showroom.” This 406 Coupé is truly a rare opportunity to acquire a time-warp vehicle in near-new condition, ready to be cherished by an enthusiast or collector.
“The interior of the car is in outstanding, factory-original condition—truly reflective of its time-capsule status. The seats and cabin remain supple and unmarked, with the cabin presenting as it did when new. All trim pieces are untouched, with no signs of fading, wear, or damage. The original head radio face cover and disc changer case is missing, but I have researched that they are available to purchase from popular sale sites for under 100 pounds. The remote central locking system works flawlessly. Every detail, from the dash to the door panels, reflects careful preservation and minimal use. The car also comes complete with two original keys, factory manuals, service book, and supporting documents—all adding to its exceptional provenance.
“There is very little left to do on this car beyond adding your own personal touches. It even comes with its original carpets and presents beautifully throughout. A minor MOT advisory regarding the tyres has already been addressed with four brand new replacements; however, I’ve intentionally left the tyre brand choice open for the next owner to select according to their preference. As previously mentioned, the cover for the head unit is missing, but replacements are readily available online for under £100. Ultimately, I’d love to see this car go to someone who will simply drive and enjoy it—it truly deserves to be appreciated.”
