The motif of rugged simplicity, mirrored from the exterior of the Defender is something that is very much present within its cabin. Whilst undeniably a large improvement over its Series 3 forebear from both a comfort and equipment perspective, the minimalist design that made the original Series Land Rovers so great is still visible here and is part of what makes these Defenders so great.
Exhibiting a light patina, the cabin of this particular Defender has been undoubtedly well cared for throughout its lifetime and lacks the excessive wear and signs of heavy usage so often associated with these trucks. Instead here we find good quality plastics and interior trim, still rich in colour and notably lacking in sun fading, cracks or damage. Switchgear and controls which present well and are all understood to be in fine fettle yet again help emphasise the careful life which this truck has lived despite its rugged appearance.
Seating is of a good quality, boasting high quality clean upholstery throughout the front and rear. Those looking to use the Defender in its intended station wagon form will be pleased to know this particular truck boasts the more refined front facing folding rear seats as opposed to the more agricultural side facing benches. The folding mechanisms themselves work well and in a matter of moments a comfortable and presentable rear passenger seat can be produced or stowed away.
Subtle upgrades in the cabin include a dash mounted auxiliary speaker and most notably a MOMO Quark aftermarket steering wheel paired with an Optimill quick release steering boss for an added layer of security. Those looking to maintain a more original cabin should note that the original steering wheel for the truck has been retained and will accompany the Land Rover upon sale.
Looking up we find a clean, contrasting roof liner, within which sits a manually operated sunroof, which functions fully and with ease.

Is there a more iconic 4x4 shape than the Defender? Square, rugged and simple, the boxy lines of the Defender are a sight instantly recognisable across the world.
Sitting proudly in its dark metallic Cairns Blue paint scheme, this Defender really does look the part. Understood to be the original paint, this deep blue is a perfect colour choice for a Defender and really makes it stand out from the more common and arguably more mundane blacks and silver, and presents with a gentle patina and smart glossy shine. There are some small areas of blemishing and scabbing to the finish but nothing to be considered major or which detracts from the look of the truck.
A front mounted electric winch has been installed alongside a substantial snorkel to give the Defender a more rugged outward appearance and make it even more capable off road although as we understand the truck has not been used as an offroader by either the current or previous owner, with the general cleanliness of the exterior helping to corroborate that.
Chequer plate sits proudly atop the front wings and lower sections of the Defender of the Defender, not only a smart stylistic choice but a theft deterrent as additional front plating has been subtly positioned to prevent access to the bonnet hinges. The collection of trim pieces clustered around the iconic front end, have been finished in contrasting dark grey paint and really work well to smarten up and bring the front end together. Both the front and rear bumpers are coated in a deep black finish and present well.

Under the bonnet we find an excellent example of Land Rover’s 2.4 litre diesel engine. Famed for its reliability and longevity, it's clear to see why these engines have built up a highly respectable reputation amongst Land Rover and 4x4 enthusiasts.
Thanks to its thorough and regular maintenance that has been performed on the Land Rover throughout its life, the Defender fires into life with ease. An excellent raw diesel engine tone billowing from the exhaust system.
On the road is naturally where this Defender really shines, with the 2.4 offering plenty of power, more so than a standard equivalent courtesy of an ECU remap and uprated intercooler fitted by Allisport circa 2010 the Defender provides what can only be described as a truly raw driving experience. With a smooth manual transmission, good brakes and wonderful suspension, this is an example that wants for nothing to be enjoyed.
Inspection underneath shows the Defender to be in good form appearing to be solid and well kept.
