The Appeal
The RBK 205, built for two short years form 1935, is the embodiment of all that was happening in Germany at the time. Ardie made its name building racing bikes using British parts, but the Nazis demanded more German input. The firm was taken over by the Barthel family, which was more friendly to the regime, and this rugged, low-cost bike was the first fruit of its drive for innovation and ‘Germanisation’ at a time of serious economic strife.
Adopting German technology meant a move to Bark’s advanced 200cc engine. Its OHV configuration provided improved performance, better airflow efficiency and cooler running compared to its contemporaries.
This handsome light green RBK 205 is a really well-kept collector example. It carries German registration and is a rare and sought-after bike.
