A rare pre-war Berliet passenger car, rarely offered for sale

Acquired from the Paris Conservatoire, with proof of purchase
Passed its MOT with no issues; valid until June 2028
The appeal
Berliet is primarily associated with commercial vehicles and heavy goods vehicles, but the Lyon-based manufacturer also produced a range of refined passenger cars during the interwar period. With its engine of nearly two litres and its emphasis on comfort, the 1144 Dauphine embodied the brand’s ambitions in the passenger car market in the late 1930s. Surviving examples are now extremely rare, making any opportunity to acquire one particularly appealing.
This 1938 model was acquired from the Paris Conservatoire, complete with its original purchase invoice, before its current owner undertook a complete restoration. Taking approximately 950 hours to complete, the work covered the bodywork, mechanical components, electrical systems and the interior. In particular, the chassis was galvanised and then powder-coated, whilst the car was repainted in an elegant beige and mahogany livery. The interior has also been completely refurbished.
Having covered just 292 km since the restoration and having passed its MOT without any issues, this Berliet 1144 Dauphine represents a rare opportunity to acquire an unusual, thoroughly restored pre-war French car. image.png4.42 MB
