The appeal
The Jeep is often associated with landings, sandy tracks, and the toughest terrain. Yet its remarkable versatility also played an essential role within the U.S. Navy. Painted in Navy blue or “armoured steel” gray, the Jeeps were used in particular as liaison vehicles on aircraft carriers and as transport for ground support teams.
This 1944 Willys MB has been the subject of a complete restoration carried out by a Jeep specialist, completed in 2022. Since then, it’s said to have covered only 540 km. The result reflects a real attention to detail: “armoured steel” gray paint, USS Iowa markings, and period accessories all contribute to an especially well-finished presentation.
A few discreet improvements were also made to make it easier to use in today’s driving conditions. These include a T90 gearbox from the M38—known for being more robust—a more economical Hotchkiss carburetor, and a conversion of the electrical system to 12 volts with a battery cut-off switch.
With its removable canvas hood, doors, tonneau cover, axe, shovel, and jerrycan, this Willys MB has all the hallmarks of a particularly appealing collectible military vehicle.
