The Appeal
The MG TF 1250 is among the archetypal classic British roadsters, combining flowing wings and running boards with a simple two-seat cabin, eager inline-four engine and liberating open-air driving experience. The T-Type line, colloquially known as the ‘Midget’, first appeared in 1936 and remained in production in various forms until 1955, when it was succeeded by the more modern MGA.
This 1954 example is finished in a stylish and period-appropriate colour combination, having been resprayed in 2002. Its matching-numbers engine has been bored out to 1,350cc for improved real-world performance and has covered fewer than 3,000 miles since being rebuilt. Further sympathetic upgrades include a five-speed gearbox for enhanced usability, along with a stainless-steel exhaust, tubular manifold, rebuilt radiator and refurbished carburettors.
Enjoyed by the seller and his wife on MG rallies, club events and European tours, this charming TF has clearly been used as intended. Now reluctantly offered for sale due to declining health, it is ready for its next enthusiast owner to enjoy, and would be particularly well suited to balmy countryside drives throughout the warmer spring and summer months.
