Highlights
- Well-preserved 500cc Venom
- Three UK keepers since arriving in 2005
- Factory standard bike with neat detailing
The Appeal
In an era when Britain’s bike makers were stumbling over each other to come up with ever-more-evocative names, Birmingham Velocette excelled itself. The Venom was exactly as described - a well-engineered, ultra-quick 500cc machine that could bite the unwary or inexperienced. This was a bike for the proper enthusiast.
The same applies now. Less than 6,000 Venoms left the works, which makes them a rare find today. They’re worth seeking out because while the ride can be demanding, they reward perseverance and make great long-distance, high-speed steeds.
This lovely 1959 Venom 500 returned to the UK in 2005, since when it has had just three keepers. The vendor’s father acquired it for his classic collection and has preserved it in factory-standard condition. We love the detailing, from the chromework to the decals and badging.
