The Appeal
If the Great British Sports Car is an art form, it's hard to deny that MG are one of the great masters. The midget was lightweight, compact and gently modernised, taking and reaffirming the formula of the must-loved Austin-Healey Sprite while making it bang-up-to-date and eminently drivable.
The earliest MG Midgets are cherished for their purity of design - the thin seats, hollow doors and compact proportions give the Mk1 an intimacy and lightness that later cars, with their added bulk and safety equipment, could never quite recapture. It's the Midget in its most elemental form, and has never been more desirable.
This 1961 example is an honest, usable car that has been sensibly maintained rather than over-restored. The current owner, who purchased the car in October 2022, has invested in a number of practical renewals as detailed below. A factory Gold Seal replacement 948cc engine was fitted by a previous owner and is reported to have good oil pressure.
Previous owners have also fitted a number of considered handling upgrades, which the vendor states make the car comfortable and capable in corners. The car holds a current MOT valid until April 2027 and is ready and waiting for its lucky new keeper. image.png1.66 MB

✓ We request that a non-refundable fee be paid if you are the lucky winning bidder at auction or if your offer is accepted Please refer to our helpful FAQs and T&Cs for specific rates.

✓ VAT is included in the buyer's fee. VAT may or may not be included in the final bid or offer price, as specified in the listing.
✓ We want a smooth transaction just as much as you do and as such we run all UK-registered cars and motorbikes for sale on Car & Classic through an online HPI check to verify that they show no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and have no finance owing, allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
✓ Buyers are responsible for vehicle collection
or delivery. Importing vehicles may result in additional customs duties and import taxes so it's worth checking beforehand. It is the bidders responsibility to confirm import eligibility prior to purchase.
