Rare example of a Rochdale GT, a sought-after 1960s British special
Comprehensively restored with a nut and bolt rebuild
Bellamy-style performance upgrades including alloy cylinder head and twin carburettors
Impressive history file including correspondence between previous owners, invoices and restoration photographs
Featured in the Rochdale Owners Club Magazine and the Sidevalve magazine
The Appeal
Built in Rochdale, Lancashire, the somewhat unimaginatively named Rochdale GTs were lightweight fibreglass-bodied sports cars designed to offer affordable performance using readily available Ford mechanicals, and in doing so, became one of the most recognisable, sought-after specials of the era. Surviving examples are scarce, and well-documented ones scarcer still.
This 1962 example has been comprehensively restored and benefits from Bellamy-style performance upgrades fitted to its 1,172cc Ford sidevalve engine. The history file is particularly noteworthy, containing correspondence between previous owners, restoration photographs, numerous invoices for parts and work, and historic photographs tracing the car's life over many decades. The car also featured in the Rochdale Owners Club Magazine in Summer 2020 and the Specials & Sports Car Register's Sidevalve magazine.
Being sold on behalf of the current owner who is downsizing his collection, this Rochdale GT is a carefully restored and thoroughly documented example of an increasingly collectable British special - one equally suited to shows, historic motoring events or spirited road use.Ford-8.jpg2.22 MB
