1963 Jaguar Mark II 3.4 litre

Highlights

・Comprehensive restoration
・Power steering retrofitted
・Low mileage

The Background

The Jaguar Mark 2 is a mid-sized luxury sports saloon built from late 1959 to 1967 by Jaguar.
The Mark 2 came with a number of engine options with this model being the 3.4litre variant which pushed out 210 bhp (157 kW; 213 PS), which is not to be sniffed at today let alone in 1963. The head of the six-cylinder engine in the Mark 2 had curved ports compared to the straight ports of the E-Type configuration. The 3.4 Litre cars were fitted with twin SU HD6 carburettors.
Due to its “Grace, Space , Pace” which was the slogan used to advertise the big cat when it hit the showrooms , the Mk2 was well though of amongst bank robbers and gangsters for being a powerful and very well handling saloon that had ample storage space for any precious cargo and the legs to out run the police if needed.

The History

This particular Mk2 Jaguar was produced in 1963 and from its production until 1994 when it was imported it resided in Australia.
Upon its return to UK shores the car was stripped and a comprehensive restoration was carried out.
The car then changed hands and was bought by the current owner. Since his ownership he has enjoyed many many outings to classic car shows and events such as Goodwood with a particular desire to venture to European events hence adapting the Jag with a few choice modern upgrades to make it easier to keep up with modern day traffic.
The car has been maintained regardless of cost and it truly is a beautiful machine.

The Paperwork

There is a lot of paperwork to support this vehicle's history and the most recent large purchases are included in the picture gallery.
The car will come with the standard V5 documentation but there is also paperwork from Jaguar heritage proving it’s authenticity.

The Interior

The interior is a fantastic coach built combination of wood, stainless accents and deep red leather. It really is a lovely place to be and is in fine condition.
The leather appears to have restored in circa 1994 when the car returned to UK shores and has a few minor blemishes and wear but no major rips or damage as the pictures prove.
The steering wheel is just fantastic and all of the electrics work.

The Exterior

The vehicle also benefited from a full respray some years ago and is still in more than fine fettle. There are a few minor stone chips but over all this classy jag is still looking fantastic. The Chrome wire wheels set this car off and offer a fantastic contrast to the anthracite grey paint. It really is a classic combination that works so well, stunning.

The Mechanics

The car still sports the original 3.4 Litre and sounds very well through a stainless exhaust system, it has that classic raspy-ness to it that you just don’t hear from todays cars.
The car has been updated to make it easier to drive especially at low speeds with a hydraulic power steering system that to be fair almost looks factory in the engine bay and makes long drives so much more pleasurable.
The Mk2 Jag was also prone to overheating this has been corrected with extra cooling fans that are automatically operated off the thermostat to keep temperatures in the green.
The final modern update which makes this Mk2 Jag a cut above the rest is the fitting of a 5 Speed Manual gearbox. Due to the European trips or long road trips to events in this country the 5 speed box is an absolute game changer and probably the best addition to the car in the owners eyes. It completely changes things.

The Appeal

The Mk2 Jag is an absolute classic, especially in this anthracite over red leather colour combination. The 1960s Gangsters go to get away car and all round classy big cat is very sought after in todays classic market.
This particular example is in stunning condition but not concourse so you wouldn’t feel bad actually using it as the designers intended much as the current owner has.
With the modern touches he has added to bring things up to date it truly is a useable classic that will turn heads where you go.
If your after a piece of classic motoring history that you can make your own memories in and rely upon to get you there… and back, this one is definitely worth a consideration.
