The Appeal
Jaguar’s decision to extend the Mk1’s glasshouse and drop in the 3.8L straight six from the E-Type created the original super saloon. No car of the 60s or perhaps any decade after has quite met the ‘four-door sports car’ brief quite like a 3.8L Mk2 with the ‘MOD’ gearbox.
This very tidy Signal Red 1964 car is a genuine factory 3.8 MOD and it comes with an interesting history. Thanks to having spent 40 years in dry storage, with photos available, the vendor tells us that the displayed 41,525 miles is genuine. We can’t confirm that, but that provenance, including just three keepers from new, points in that direction.
The car has been extensively recommissioned over the last 10 years, including a full engine rebuild by specialist Connaught Competition Engines. More recently, the flywheel was replaced in 2025. The original rear spats and steering wheel are included.
Presented in very good order with a desirable colour scheme and very smart interior, this is a very tidy Mk2 with interesting history.
