The Appeal
Porsche built just 500 or so 356 1600 Supers. That, plus its considerable beauty, likely explains why original cars are the preserve of those with the deepest of pockets. This highly detailed evocation by Arizona specialist Vintage Speedsters is far more accessible than the £500,000 an original commands, and therefore considerably more usable.
Not that it has been used that much. The odometer shows just 1,107 km (631 miles), and the car’s interesting backstory supports that. We’re told its very wealthy first keeper commissioned it as a detailed replica of the 1957 T2 1600 Super, with its teardrop rear lights and lower number plate light. It was finished in white with a carefully wrought interior in tan leather and chromed steel wheels and equipped with a 1.6L air cooled flat four engine. When it was completed in 2017, he displayed it in his office right beside his desk. The car later went on display at the 2020 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, where it reportedly drew large crowds.
The UK vendor bought the car when it arrived in the UK in December 2020. It joined his large high-end collection, where it has been carefully dry stored and used very sparingly. The result is a beautifully presented example in great condition.
This 356 is not to be confused with some lesser replicas. As you can see in the photos, this is a highly detailed Vintage Speedster evocation with exceptionally low mileage.
