The Appeal
Ferruccio Lamborghini would likely never have been able to produce his exquisite sports cars if it hadn’t been for the success of his tractor business. Founded in 1948 and still going strong, Lamborghini Tratorri have long been renowned for producing capable agricultural equipment and the 1R is held in particularly high regard by farmers and enthusiasts alike.
Here we have a delightfully original and richly patinated example that’s said to still be in good working order. In previous ownership from the early 1970s until quite recently, we’re informed that this tractor has spent much of its life towing timber and even powering the saw used to cut it.
Few Lamborghini 1Rs are left to be uncovered in such original, yet still functional condition. We urge you to consider this fine example.
The History and Paperwork
- This example apparently originates from Crocetta del Montello, a municipality renowned for producing wood - an industry in which this tractor played an important role for much of its life
- Used for towing a wood cart and also cutting lumber by powering a saw using its PTO
- In previous ownership since the early 1970s
- Equipped with lights front and rear for road use, although not currently registered
- Unrestored and very original
The Condition
- Richly patinated with a great deal of wear to every surface
- Beside the front wheels which were repainted prior to the fitment of new tyres and inner tubes, we understand that this tractor still wears its original paintwork
- The rear tyres are quite worn but still hold air
- The remnants of the original decals remain just about visible
- We couldn’t see any excessive corrosion
- New Lamborghini bonnet emblem fitted
- The vendor points out that it retains its original tool box and seat
- Beside the round rear lamp, the lights are not the original items - they were fitted more recently for road use
- The engine hour counter is currently disconnected and is also missing its glass face and chrome trim
- We adore the way this tractor looks and it’s increasingly rare to see such an original, untouched example
The Mechanics
- 1.5-litre twin-cylinder diesel engine
- Three-speed gearbox with a two-speed transfer case
- Power take-off with pulley
- The hydraulic brakes are not currently functional - as is often the case on Lamborghini tractors of this vintage although the vendor remarks that the handbrake is a little more effective
- New exhaust, which is said to be an accurate recreation of an original item
- The vendor reports that it starts promptly, even when cold, at a touch of the button and runs well with no smoke
- Apparently drives well in all gears and the PTO engages correctly
Summary
We love to see these old tractors still in their unrestored, original state - especially those that continue to work as intended.
We’re sure this tractor will be of great interest to lamborghini collectors, or would even be a great choice if you’re in need of a capable compact tractor.
