The Appeal
The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia represents one of the most elegant collaborations in automotive history. The legendary Italian styling house, Karmann, were responsible for its remarkable bodywork, famously smoothed with English pewter, while the trusty, air-cooled simplicity of the Volkswagen Beetle beat at its heart.
This 1966 right-hand drive example is particularly special as it's believed to be from the one-year-off build specification that features elements from both the 1965 and 1967 models. A real transitional spot of history, then, and doubtably an interesting one. However, this example's interest doesn't end there - it was given away as a competition prize by Just Kampers back in 2017. Since then, it's been through two former keepers and a comprehensive restoration.
Originally outfitted in Lotus White, this fabulous car has been resprayed into an eye-catching, specially-scanned colour match of Sandstone Grey (ref code 74962), complemented by a full Dark Red vinyl interior. It's a beautiful colour combination that suits the car down to the ground, and makes for a particularly striking classic. We've no doubt it'll garner plenty of interest at auction.
The vendor notes it would have originally had a 1500cc single port engine, replaced at some point in the car's life
