The Appeal
The Elan +2 was a curious market for the Hethel concern to chase, in retrospect. We don't exactly hear Lotus and think 'family car', but here it was - an outstretched Elan with two rear seats for the kids and a generally upscale, more ambitious cabin. Still beautifully styled with those all-important pop-up lights, still capable of excellent performance and still a high-octane drive like few others - but this time it was a little more capable of a trip to the supermarket. Well, why not? It even managed to outlive the original Elan by two years. It clearly did its job well.
This 1968 example has been upgraded with a Ford Zetec engine and 5-speed transmission, taking the performance-led car that one step further and making it all the more eminently drivable on the modern network. With a little bit of cosmetic work here and there, this could become a true show winner - or, of course, a capable, exciting drive at your convenience. Not one to miss!
