The Appeal

The first-generation Oldsmobile Toronado was a landmark in American automotive engineering, one of the first mass-produced front-wheel-drive cars from a US manufacturer, powered by a mighty 455ci Rocket V8 sending 375 horsepower through the front wheels. With its dramatic styling, rotating hideaway headlights, and imposing proportions, the Toronado remains one of the most distinctive personal luxury coupés of the 1960s.

This 1968 example was sold new at Congressional Motors Inc. in Rockville, Maryland, and remained with its original owner in Virginia until 2023, when it was acquired from the owner's estate. Dry stored for over 30 years, it retains its Ocean Turquoise Metallic finish in patina condition, with the bodywork and underside reported to be in good shape. Mechanical work was reportedly carried out both prior to export and following its arrival in the UK, where it is noted to have been fully overhauled and serviced, including a refurbished radiator.
