The Appeal

The Capri was Europe’s Mustang, and that clearly gave one South African an idea. Basil Green took locally built stock Capris, dropped in the Mustang 5L 302CI Windsor V8 and went racing. The evocatively named Perana snatched 13 out of 14 races in the 1970 South African Saloon Car Championship and a legend was born.

Just 500 factory Peranas were built so finding one is a needle versus haystack hunt. This car solves the problem. It is a clever and well-detailed evocation built in 2022 at a reported cost of £22,000. It is based on a 1969 1600cc Capri but naturally upgraded to a 5L Mustang V8. Fully resprayed bright orange, a homage to the brightly coloured Basil Green cars, with a fully retrimmed interior, it is in good condition.

The currant keeper acquired the car in 2022 and has continued the investment since.

For transparency the car comes with a recent February 2025 MOT, although this is not a legal requirement for a car of this age. The test contained no advisories.

Modifying Capris is a long-established art and the Perana among the best on that theme. This detailed homage is a rare chance to join that scene.
