THE APPEAL
There is a saying that the Italians invented the supercar, the Americans the muscle car, with the Brits laying claim to the sports car. Indeed it was British car makers that were renowned for making compact two-door sports cars that punched well above their weight. One such success story that proved to be a game-changer was the MG MGB. Launched by BMC in 1962, the new convertible succeeded the ageing MGA and would go on to become the best-selling sport car in the world. Such was its popularity the MGB actually stayed in production until 1995. The example being offered for sale here on Car and Classic is a very nice 1969 MGB Roadster finished in classic MG red with a black hood.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- V5C in owner's name
- Two Keys
- First registered in on 16th June 1969 and was possibly imported to the UK in 2003
- The cars current MOT Certificate expires on 19th June, with the MG passing this test with no advisories
- Last service carried out on 20th June 2022 at a cost of £261.39
- A selection of maintenance invoices in the history document the car's ongoing maintenance over the years
- A breakdown of the MGB Roadsters' extensive restoration carried out in 2008 is supported by a document from Croydon Classics, which provides a detailed list of items renewed or replaced
- It has been in the current owner's custodianship for the past 15 years and they have used the car very sparingly

THE INTERIOR
- Black vinyl interior with red piping to the seat trims
- The interior is in lovely condition all round and looks as good as when it was restored in 2008
- The seats have hardly any signs of wear and the black carpets are clean and fresh
- All the gauges and switches are nice and clean and again have little evidence of wear

THE EXTERIOR
- Finished in MGB Red, the Roadster presents very nicely and is in very clean condition all round
- The paintwork is in excellent shape with a lovely shine to its classic MG colour scheme. There is a very small chip on the lower edge of the driver's door, which is shown in the photos.
- The car's underside also presents very well
- The car's chrome work is also in lovely condition with no dings or major scratches evident
- A set of chrome wire wheels with chrome knock offs complete the look and these are in very nice condition as well. A painted wire spare wheel is found in the boot.
- The black convertible hood is in good condition with the rear screens nice and clear and free from clouding. The hood colour has faded but it should respond to a recolour.

THE MECHANICS
- 1798cc engine
- 4 Speed Manual Gearbox
- This example is fitted with Overdrive but it is not currently connected to the Overdrive switch on the dashboard
- The seller states that the car was maintained by an older mechanic who actually used to work for MG at the factory in Abingdon
- The seller goes on to say that the MGB starts and drives very well

SUMMARY
The MGB Roadster is one of the UK’s most popular classic convertibles and they have a loyal following. They are comfortable to drive, with crisp handling, lively engines and a surprising amount of interior space and leg room for a classic car. There’s also a decent sized boot in the back making the roadster a practical classic and ideal for those weekend trips away. And when the sun comes out, the hood can come down for that wind in the hair driving experience. This 1969 MG MGB Roadster is a lovely example of the great British classic convertible and with little effort, could be brought up to show standards very easily.
